Donald Trump Praises Kanye West’s Off Script ‘Saturday Night Live’ Pro MAGA Rant

Former “Saturday Night Live” host and current President of the United States of America Donald Trump took a moment Sunday morning to praise Kanye West’s off-script MAGA rant at the close of the show.

After first getting his digs in on the show that relentlessly mocks him — “No longer funny, no talent or charm” — Trump tweeted that while he wasn’t watching last night, he did hear that Kanye was great. “He’s leading the charge!” Trump wrote.Kanye was the last-minute musical guest on the season premiere, hosted by Adam Driver, after Ariana Grande pulled out. West performed three times, including a number that closed out the show. But he quickly made it about more than just another musical number.

TMZ reports that Kanye took a break from singing to rant about “SNL” producers, saying they pressured him not to wear his now-signature MAGA hat on the stage, and that they’d bullied him. The cast stood awkwardly behind him momentarily before filing off-stage completely.

Trump rang a similar tone in his tweet, saying that the show is now “just a political ad for the Dems.” He praised West for using that platform to spout his support of Trump and the GOP. West ranted about the Democratic party and Bill Cosby and even looked to co-head writer Michael Che for support at one point.

It’s so many times that I talk to a white person about this, and they say, ‘How could you support Trump? He’s racist.’ Well if I was concerned about racism, I would have moved out of America a long time ago,” West said. “We don’t just make our decisions off of racism. I’ma break it down to you right now: If someone inspires me and I connect with them, I don’t have to believe in all they policies.”

West’s message came on a show that had already mocked Brett Kavanaugh’s blustery performance during the Senate Judiciary Committee hearing on Thursday and regularly employs Alec Baldwin to skewer the commander-in-chief.

But according to a tweet from the rapper Sunday morning, “SNL” creator Lorne Michaels wants him to host before the year is out, so maybe he had no problem with what happened.

It’s certainly giving the premiere more than its share of press. Check out West’s full rant below:
