Elephant Man Under Investigation Over Viral Gun Video

Elephant man was recently listed as a person of interest following a viral video which showed the Jamaican entertainer handling what appeared to be a firearm.

The clip shows a scantily-clad woman playing with an object, resembling a gun, before handing it to the Dancehall artist.

The Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) has launched an investigation to determine whether a object in the video involving Elephant Man is real.

The Firearm Licensing Authority, the entity which regulates the licences of firearm holders on the island, said that the “How We Do It” deejay is not the holder of a gun licence.

However, Christopher Townsend, the attorney for entertainer O’Neil ‘Elephant Man’ Bryan, has questioned the authenticity of a video, expressing that it cannot be taken at face value.

“First and foremost, things that appear in social media does not necessarily mean that it is as it appears. It could be photoshopped, spliced and all kinds of things can happen,” Townsend told media reporters on Tuesday.

“I am concerned they are calling it a firearm. Certain qualifications bar a firearm to be a firearm. A photograph of a firearm, doesn’t qualify as a firearm,” Townsend added.

According to the Corporate Communications Unit, investigators have made checks at different locations with which the entertainer is associated, however, he was not found.

On Tuesday, the Corporate Communication Unit (CCU) of the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) reported on the effort to locate Bryan. The report read as follows:

“The Criminal Investigations Branch (CIB) of the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) has commenced investigations into a recent video being circulated on social media. In the video, a woman is seen with what appeared to be a firearm, which she handed over to… (a) man who is believed to be a local entertainer. Detectives made checks at different locations where the entertainer is associated with, in order to assist with the investigations. However, he was not found. The entertainer and the woman depicted in the video are being sought as persons of interest, as investigators believe they can assist with the investigations.”

But Townsend said he was not aware that the police wanted to find his client and has asserted that his client is willing to go the police for questioning in connection with a viral gun video.

“Quiet frankly, I haven’t heard of any request. I am his attorney. If it is that they require him, please feel free to contact me if they so desire,” he said.

“I do represent him. The matter is being investigated, and so I can’t say much,” Townsend added, noting that he has been in constant dialogue with his client.

“Contrary to the statement put out by the Police High Command, my client has not been hiding,” Townsend told reporters on Wednesday morning.

“He has been conducting his business affairs at his houses, doing renovations and such. He has not been hiding,” he stressed.

Townsend has arranged a question-and-answer session involving his client, whose real name is O’Neil Bryan, and police investigators, in relation to the probe.

“I have contacted Mr Champagnie of the Police High Command, and made arrangements for Elephant Man to sit down with investigators on Thursday. We don’t know what time (it will be); that depends on the availability of counsel and the police investigators,” he revealed.
